Creating Custom Gemini Gems
Overview
As part of Vincennes University's Google Workspace, you can create custom, personalized versions of Google Gemini called Gems. A Gem acts as a specialist tailored to your specific tasks or topics. By providing unique instructions and goals, you can create a "mini-expert"—such as a coding partner, a creative writing coach, or a meal planner—that remembers exactly how you want it to behave. Gems streamline your daily workflow by bypassing the need to repeat complex prompts every time you start a new conversation.
How to Create a Gem
- Navigate to Gems: In the upper left-hand menu of the Gemini app, click on Gems.
- Open the Gem Manager: You are now in your "Gem Manager." This is where you can view and manage all the Gems you've created. Click on New Gem to start building.
- Set Your Instructions: In the provided text box, type out the exact instructions, rules, and tone you want the Gem to adhere to when you talk to it.
- Save and Select: Once you click save, your new custom assistant is ready. You can now select that Gem from the Gem Manager or your sidebar anytime you need it.
