Body
Taking an exam with Honorlock requires a clean, compatible browser environment. It is highly recommended to create a dedicated Chrome profile to ensure that other extensions or cached data won't interfere with your exam. The following steps will guide you through creating a new Chrome profile and installing the Honorlock extension. This is a one time setup process that will allow you to access the exams in any of your courses that use the Honorlock proctoring tool.
Step 1: Create a New Google Chrome Profile
Using a dedicated profile keeps your schoolwork separate and prevents background extensions from blocking Honorlock.
1. Open Google Chrome.
2 .Click on your Profile icon in the top-right corner of the window (it looks like a circular picture or an initial).
3. At the bottom of the pop-up menu, click "Add Chrome Profile".

4. Select the option "Stay signed out".

5. Give your new profile a name (e.g., "VU - Honorlock").
6. Choose a theme color if you'd like and click "Done".

A brand-new Chrome window will automatically open under this profile. Always use this specific window when you are preparing to take your proctored exams.
Note - you can also add a new profile from the "Who's using Chrome?" screen as well. Click the "Add" option, and follow the same steps listed above:

Step 2: Install the Honorlock Chrome Extension
Honorlock will only work within the Google Chrome browser and requires its official extension to monitor your exam securely.
1. In your new Chrome profile window, login to your Blackboard acccount and access any course that is using Honorlock for testing.
2. Locate and click on the "Honorlock Exam List" content item.

3. When the "Honorlock Exam List" page opens, check the "I agree..." box, and click on the "Get Started" button.

4. A new tab will open and you will be taken to the Honorlock page on the Chrome Web Store site. Click the "Add to Chrome" button.

5. You will receive a prompt asking you to "Add Honorlock". Click the "Add extension" button, and the the extension will be added to your browser.

6. Once installed, you will now have access to the Honorlock Exam List page, and any exams that require the use of the Honorlock proctoring tool.

Step 3: Verify and Pin the Extension
Make sure the extension is active and easily visible.
1. Click the Extensions icon (it looks like a puzzle piece) in the top-right corner of your Chrome browser.
2. Find Honorlock in the list.
3. Click the Pin icon next to it so it stays visible on your toolbar.

Troubleshooting & Best Practices
Before you launch your exam, quickly double-check these settings to ensure a seamless experience:
-
Check App Permissions: Ensure Chrome has permission to access your Camera and Microphone in your computer's system settings (Mac users: check System Settings > Privacy & Security).
-
Close Unnecessary Tabs: Close all other applications (like Discord, Spotify, or Zoom) and extra tabs before starting.
-
Keep Chrome Updated: Click the three dots in the top right corner, go to Help > About Google Chrome, and let it update to the latest version if prompted.
-
Disable Conflicting Proctoring Tools: If you have other proctoring extensions installed (such as Proctorio), you must disable or delete them before launching Honorlock, as they will cause system conflicts.
